Dzhabar Askerov

My name is Dzhabar. I was born in Republic of Dagestan, southernmost part of Russia, in mountain village of Kurah. I am youngest child of three; I have older brother and my sister is middle child.

My father very athletic and took me to Judo gym when I was 6 years old.  I trained in Judo for 2 years, I become very good.  My father moved to city from country and took me to new Muay Thai gym.  Because I trained in Judo 2 years, I start Muay Thai and continue to train Judo at same time.

My father supports me all the way and I like to fight a lot.  Because Muay Thai not popular in Russia I was ready to fight any discipline for first fight.  I fight first competition with Western boxing rules after 2 weeks training in Muay Thai.

When I turn 9 year old I was in Russian Junior Championship fighting in 28 kg division and I win silver medal.  At that time I was so upset and crying and everybody around me tell me Dzhabar, “come on kid, you did good job”.  And I remember well when our driver was saying to me, “…one day you will be World Champion for sure, I know it”  It was good lesson but I was angry because I get silver medal.

With time I fight a lot in Muay Thai, boxing, Karate, and free fights.  When I turn 3, my family moves to the capital of Dagestan, Machachkala.  Then I start to train in just Muay Thai and was fighting also in boxing and free fights.

In 1999, my trainer sent me to Belorussia for Junior World Championship in Muay Thai.  I fight in 4 fights and I win gold medal at 13 years old and I remember what words my driver say to me that I would be world champion one day, and I did it.  I come back to Degestan, my father was so happy for me.  One year later, I go to another UFC Junior Championship, and again I fight 4 fights and I win that competition again.

When I was 15 years old my father past away and it was so hard for me to lose my closest friend in my life.  My father brings me to Muay Thai and he was my teacher in life, the man who makes me who I am today.  A few days before he died, my father ask me to promise him to keep going in Muay Thai sport and never stop, I promise him.  Since that day all my victories are for my father.

When I turn 19 years old I go to Thailand and start to fight professional Muay Thai.  I fight first fight after 1 month here.  I was living in Bangkok and I did a lot of fights there and around the world.  After six months I win first belt, PK-1 World Championship belt.  One month later I win WMC against drugs championship belt.

Then I went back to Russia to visit family, they were so happy for me.  After one month I go back to Thailand and fight a lot.

In 2007 I get chance to be in reality show called Contender Asia.  I go until semi-finals and lost to John-Wayne Parr in close fight.  After Contender Asia, I move to Koh Samui to train with WMC camp and stay here now.
